Honorable Imelda R. Marcos is the Chairperson for the Special House Committee on Millennium Development Goals
at the House of Representatives from 2010 up to 2013. The following are some of her accomplishments and projects under her term:
Participation in the AIPA Seminar in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia – The Philippine delegation headed by Hon. Imelda R. Marcos, the MDGs’ Chairperson, had actively participated in the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Seminar on Accelerating The Achievement of MDG#5 Through The Role of Women Parliamentarians in Phnom Penh, Kingdom of Cambodia. Hon. Marcos presented the Philippines Progress Report on MDG#5, its overview, challenges and constraints in improving the maternal health and the Role of Parliamentarians in accelerating the achievement of this goal.
Other activities engaged in by the committee:
“Light for Rights”- A Global Campaign to Fight HIV and AIDS – Global Event on HIV and AIDS Awareness with Photo Exhibit of Advocates to fight the spread of HIV and AIDS by artist Nicolo Come followed by a Policy-Forum antitled ” Stigma and Discrimination: the Philippine Experience of People living with HIV and AIDS held at Mitra Building Lobby and Minority Floor Leader Conference Room, House of Representatives, Quezon City joint with PLCPD and UNAIDS and the House Committee on Health.
Forum-Workshop- “Engaging Legislators in Breaking Through to MDG Achievement: The Final 5 Years” – A Forum-Workshop for the members of the House of Representatives to discuss the country’s progress on MDGs, the importance of achieving the MDGs through inclusive development and recognizing a citizen’s agenda for MDG achievement held last March 2, 2011 at Sulo Hotel, Quezon City joint with the UN MDG Achievement Fund and the Committee Affairs Department.
Partnership Activity with the Committee on Peoples’ Participation, Peace and Equity Foundation and the United Nations Volunteer Programme on “Strengthening Peoples’ Participation and Volunteerism Towards Community Development and the Attainment of the Millennium Development Goals” – This activity is in connection with the global celebration of the International Year of the Volunteers which extols the importance of volunteerism as a strategy for development. It started with a Photo/Product Exhibit on the afternoon of 03 October 2011 at the North Lobby, House of Representatives which was graced by MDGs Chairperson Imelda R. Marcos with Hon. Speaker Feliciano Belmonte Jr., UNDP Resident Representative, Mr. Renaud Meyer and Peoples’ Participation Vice-Chairperson Cinchona Gonzales and other Committee Members, Government Executives, NGO partners and volunteers groups.

Celebration of Volunteer Day and IYV+10 (Conference on the State of Volunteerism in the Philippines 2001-2011 and the Launching of the Global Volunteerism Report/ Bayanihan Exhibit for MDGs/Bayanihan Congress / Bayanihan Concert.
