Palayan ng Bayan

This project was launched in 1973 as an extension of the Green Revolution in order to put vast tracts of virgin lands into rice production.  All provincial governors in country pledged their participation.

In the first six years of the program, the Palayan ricelands averaged 50 cavans per hectare, producing 230,000 cavans annually.  As the country achieved rice self-sufficiency and generated enough surplus for export, the Palayan project has expanded into the production of corn and other food crops.
