In support of the country’s reforestation program, Mrs. Marcos founded the seedling Bank to assure a steady supply of seedlings which heretofore had been a problem. Denuded forests have caused erosion and floods that have resulted in the loss of millions property and have posed a serious threat to lives. The country’s source of lumber has been similarly depleted. In setting up the bank, Mrs. Marcos has stressed the importance of tress in the ecological balance in human settlements for the health and well-being of people. Thus the seedling bank supports the goal of the Environmental Center, also founded by the First Lady, of creating wholesome surrounding for man’s habitat.
